Houston, Texas.- Las sirenas han estado presentes en una infinidad de libros, películas y en la mitología a través de los tiempos. ¿De dónde provienen estas leyendas? ¿Son leyendas? O acaso estas místicas e interesantes criaturas pudieron existir alguna vez entre nosotros. Las sirenas están presentes alrededor del mundo, y muchos juran haber estado en la presencia de estas criaturas. Los Alemanes le llaman Meerfrau, los Daneses Maremind, los Irlandeses Murduac y se caracterizan por tener cabeza y torso humano con un cuerpo de pez completo con aletas y escamas. Se dice que cantan y enamoran a los marineros e incluso que en ocasiones pueden tomar forma humana. La cultura Japonesa y China también habla de sirenas, llamadas Ningyo acompañadas de dragones de agua servían como sus esposas. La mitología Griega también hace referencia, con Homero mencionando a las sirenas en sus viajes épicos en la Odisea.

Leyendas Irlandesas dicen que las sirenas eran mujeres paganas que habían sido desterradas de la tierra por el Santo Patricio. Fue al principio de la edad medieval que las historias de sirenas y marineros perdidos tomó más fuerza inspirando leyendas, cuentos y fábulas. Hasta qué punto es todo mito o leyenda, y  ¿en qué momento se vuelve realidad?, o ¿en qué momento de la historia fueron extinguidas las sirenas convirtiéndose en un mito? Científicos alrededor del mundo han especulado a través de los años. Según algunos científicos las sirenas podrían ser un salto evolutivo del hombre. La teoría del simio acuático o Aquatic Ape en ingles, dice que mientras algunos se adaptaron a la vida en la tierra otros emigraron a las aguas más profundas del planeta desarrollando capacidades físicas y biológicas para la vida bajo las profundidades. Es una teoría que tiene base en la misma que explica como las ballenas alguna vez fueron terrestres y como los ancestros de las aves modernas fueron dinosaurios.

El canal educativo Animal Planet realizó un documental de ficción que explicaba no solo la presencia de sirenas en el pasado sino la presencia de las mismas en las costas estadounidenses y de cómo el gobierno (así como en los casos de ovnis) estaba encubriendo. El programa se llamóMermaid: a Body Found, Sirenas: un cuerpo encontrado y fue televisado por primera vez durante la ‘Semana de Monstruos de Animal Planet’ – Mayo 27-28 de este año. Su popularidad llevó al canal a  repetir el programa de nuevo el pasado domingo 15 de Julio.

Animal Planet se caracteriza por transmitir programas educativos basados en hechos, y no en producciones ficticias. El programa habló sobre la supuesta evolución del simio acuático, y de cómo el gobierno americano sabe sobre la existencia de estas criaturas. También expuso teorías de complot y  de cómo las sirenas y las ballenas se han ayudado y comunicado desde el principio de los tiempos, viajando juntas alrededor de los océanos. Por último el programa explica que el carácter participativo de los delfines y su amistosa relación con el hombre es el eco de una relación con las sirenas, y de que los delfines, como el hombre comparten el recuerdo de una raza que existió.

Controversia con Animal Planet

El programa ha creado tal controversia entre los televidentes que la Administración Nacional de Atmosfera Oceánica (NOAA) por sus ciclas en inglés, emitió un comunicado de prensa en el cual decía que jamás se han encontrado pruebas que confirmen la existencia de las sirenas. Animal Planet se defiende con el argumento de que el programa fue presentado como una producción ficticia y como entretenimiento pero muchos objetan que el canal no hizo gran hincapié en aclarar al televidente sobre la veracidad de los hechos presentados.

No cabe duda de que tanto la presencia de estos personajes en mitología y leyenda alrededor del mundo, así como la teoría del simio acuático dejan mucho a la imaginación. El programa de Animal Planet, ficticio o no, ha incitado a muchos a pensar de manera científica y con razonamiento. ¿Son las sirenas mito o realidad? Y de haber pruebas concretas, ¿serían compartidas públicamente o mantenidas en secreto? por los gobiernos,  como se dice se mantienen el tema de los ovnis.

Me cabe destacar que ni aun los mismos cristianos que leen la biblia ,y son por la biblia sus vidas. Pero les resulta dificil aceptar una historia, y un legado que por medios de los libros, y tradiciones orales no hacen llegar nuestros padres. Aludiendo a que estos textos son sacados de los libros Apocrifos, pero la pregunta es para ellos y quien decidio que libros era apocrifo y cual era divino de Dios,un ser humano?

Houston, Texas. - The sirens have been present in countless books, movies and mythology through the ages. Where do these legends? Are legends?
